McIntyre Hut | Whakaari Conservation Area
A surprisingly large hut halfway up the side of a hill that takes some getting to. You need to cross Buckler Burn that gets your feet wet. Suggestion: don’t visit when heavy rain is predicted.
Is it a feature to have a gravel floor?
On the other hand, the water tank is surprisingly small and can run out of water for long periods over summer, and it’s a long way down to the creek. No heating due to a lack of firewood.
