Pakituhi Hut | Hawea Conservation Area

After the 1000 m or so climb to get here from Lake Hawea, the sight of Pakituhi Hut would be welcome for many. Built in 2011 to fill the gap for Te Araroa, the hut already seems too small, but if less than completely full, it’s cosy enough.

This hut, at 1380 m above sea level, is one of the highest on Te Araroa and being in Tussockland has no heating.

For some reason, there are few decent campsites in the vicinity due to the slope and tussock.
