Dynamo Hut | Mount Aurum Recreation Reserve

Dynamo Hut was built in 1919 from salvaged materials from the 1886 structure to house two hydro-powered dynamos that supplied power to a quartz-crushing battery at the Bullendale gold mine in the adjacent valley to the north. This was the first hydro-electric powered electricity generation in New Zealand.

It’s one of the most pleasant huts in the area, due to being located on a sunny grassy paddock with views of the surroundings.

Probably 50 river crossings to get there, however.
