Otamatapaio Hut | Oteake Conservation Park
An old musterers’ hut that was built sometime pre-1950 has been completely renovated by DOC in 2005 with a full plywood interior, new aluminium-framed single-glazed windows, new bunks, stainless steel bench and timber table, wood burner, toilet, and presumably insulation. And not being used much, it is in great repair.
Occasional hunters or various locals scoot up for the night—few bonafide trampers or mountain bikers.
If you want to use the wood burner, you need to bring your own wood as it is set in tussock, and there are no trees anywhere close.
