Routeburn Flats campsite is a hugely popular summer campsite due to the proximity to Queenstown and the mostly flat walk in.
Why not camp here? It gets sun much of the day, there’s a great outlook, the river to have a splash around just in front, and even mostly flat campsites. A lot to like.

New Zealand resident, need driver’s license: $21 per adult, free if under 18.
Non-New Zealand resident: $32 per adult, $16 under 18.
camping fee – winter season . . . until 31 October 2023, $10 per adult, free if under 18, ie, 1 hut ticket, or backcountry hut pass.
booking . . . required for summer season, 1 November 2023 – 30 April 2024, either online or at a DOC office. Not required for winter season.
