Ahuriri Base Hut | Ahuriri Conservation Park
Huts accessible by four-wheel drives can be in poor repair, but Ahuriri Base Hut is an exception. It’s in surprisingly good nick, probably as it’s not as much used as its location suggests.
Hunters tend to venture further up the valley to the other three huts or camp.
Mountain bikers can get to Hagen Hut on a day trip and may prefer more comfortable lodgings by returning to civilisation.
Nice setting in a beech forest, with plenty of firewood for the woodburner around due to nearby windfalls.
