Hooker Hut | Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park

Hooker Hut was originally located a fair way further up the valley, well above the lake, but was moved a few times due to unstable ground. Eventually, as it became dangerous to access due to changing climatic conditions causing problems with the moraine, it was moved right down the valley in 2021.

It’s hidden away to avoid damage from the 800 K visitors to Hooker Lake.

To find it, keep going up the Sefton Bivvy track that is not marked except for a small orange triangular marker on the timber boardwalk not far from the toilet.

Very well restored. With a colour scheme that makes it stand out in the landscape.

You need to book it at the DOC office in Aoraki Village.
