Baikie Hut | Ruataniwha Conservation Park

One of the few real Mackenzie Country huts. The flat stroll in is through an area of many wilding pines, although some have been poisoned. It gives an indication of what DOC is up against in attempting to eradicate them.

The hut is in good nick for such an old hut.

There’s a fenced horse paddock adjacent if you use that method of transportation. A mountain bike would be useful, although you can get much of the way in a four-wheel drive.
