The next morning, early on, still dark, the two hunters took off to do their thing, and I could follow their progress on the other side of the valley via their powerful headlights.
I was also up early, as I wanted to get on the road as quickly as possible. Some blue sky became apparent, but the wind was still blasting away.
The usual 9 am getaway. I was the last to leave, other than the family, although the hunters hadn’t returned.
The climb back up to Silver Peaks seemed much easier, with a reasonable grip. But once again, the track took me into the clouds, this time with them mostly stationary. That focused my steps with none of the famous views to see.
The experiment of wearing the hiking shoes that I usually used to walk around town seemed to work okay, and I started thinking about wearing them in the Eyre Mountains.
The track was well beaten, and once up the hill with its 400 m climb, it was mostly fairly cruisey.
Before long, I was back at my car and having a late lunch.
Now, all I needed to do was get to Dunedin and on to Lumsden.
