Wheel Creek Hut | Victoria Forest Park
Two things about this hut. The track is very little used, so while it has orange DOC markers, the trail underfoot isn’t always obvious, and the occasional area of windfall makes it a task to find the track on the other side. The track improves significantly in the final stretch before the hut.
The other is the splendid state of the hut. Having had a poor track for much of the time since the New Zealand Forest Service stopped regularly maintaining the tracks, the hut has been little used.
Now, having been renovated in 2025, it is in excellent condition and is one of the most original SF 70 six-bunkers around.
