Mt Curtis Hut, Victoria Forest Park
Four hours up is optimistic for anyone other than those who are decently fit. You cross Dee Creek shortly after the first tributary, and then follow pink ribbons up until the 300 m contour, where the track becomes easier to follow. The steep climbing commences, and deep breathing is involved for the next 900 m of elevation gain. See the Mt Curtis page of the Remote Huts website for a map of the route.
The hut is community-built and maintained, and is well constructed with glazing on three sides. It has a porch, an outside sink, a woodshed, and a toilet.
No views into the Inangahua Valley from the hut, which is on the forest line, but the views open up once you have progressed further up Mt Curtis.
