Adams Flat Hut | Kahurangi National Park

This is a replica of an 1882 miners’ hut built by John Adam further up the valley that was in a decrepit state. It’s a great day walk out from Karamea through regenerating forest on a fully benched track.

Not many stay as it’s so close to town, and the amenity offered is minimal. A picnic table would be useful.

Still, it’s interesting to see how old huts were built, even if some of the structure is treated pine rather than bush-milled native timber.
