Lower Arahura Hut | Arahura River
Lower Arahura Hut is set on a river terrace perched above the Arahura River. The hut is starting to need reasonable efforts to get to due to the encroachment of the river onto the river flats, and the gouging of the tributary streams.
An older four-bunk hut near this site, built 1962, was transferred up to become the current Mt Brown Hut.
Unfortunately, it is commonly frequented by locals who tend to leave the place a mess. It’s great accommodation otherwise.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
