Jim's Flat Hut, Granville Wildlife Management Area

Jim’s Flat Hut is a newish two-room five-bunk hut that is very accessible. Just an easy hour’s walk from the unsignposted turn-off makes it suitable for youngsters to have a first taste of West Coast forest and an overnighter away from home. It’s a four-wheel-drive track, so the hut is prone to vandalism or misuse by those bringing excessive alcohol and doing their thing.

The hut is perched above a pool in the big Ahaura River, and the outlook is splendid. The cage on the cableway over the river is locked. Built and maintained by the nearby Ahaura community.
