Packhorse Hut | Te Ara Pātaka/Summit Walkway

One of the four rest houses on the 35 km Te Ara Pātaka/Summit walkway that wanders along a Banks Peninsula ridge with plenty of big views of Lyttleton Harbour. A great place to take kiddies for their first overnight adventure.

Designed by Christchurch architect Samuel Seger with the idea to represent New Zealand character and built in 1919 from locally quarry of volcanic stone, it has now been well restored. Certainly plenty of character.
