Steyning Hut | Lake Sumner Forest Park
Once this was a New Zealand Forest Service deer cullers’ hut, like so many others. The creation of the four-wheel-drive track between the Boyle and Waiau Rivers has made it somewhat redundant, particularly with the landholder, now Glen Wye Station, posting No Trespassing notices prominently in various places, although not at the DOC hut.
The Scotties to Steyning Hut shortcut ain’t so well travelled these days so this hut may end up being relocated to a more popular spot. It’s not used by either trampers or hunters much anymore.
