Hurunui Hut | Lake Sumner Forest Park
It might have a 20 minute stroll up to Hurunui Hut from the river in either direction, but that gives a benefit: there’s a view over to the range that acts as a backdrop to Lake Sumner, nice when the sun is setting.
Hurunui Hut is the usual everything-in-one-big-room style of DOC hut that tends to promote social interaction, if there are other people about, and ain’t that what tramping in NZ is all about?

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
