Nina Hut | Lake Sumner Forest Park

Nina Hut has plenty going for it. It’s modern, ie, big double-glazed windows, insulated, good water supply, etc. It stands on a ridge with decent views all around, including Mt Boscawen, 1780 m, prominent to the west.

It’s a great hut to visit for a first in-and-out, weekend-style tramp.

Despite the DOC signage, it’s about 1½ hours from the highway SH 7 to the swingbridge, then another 1½ hours to the hut. Maybe slightly longer if enthusiasm for trudging is flagging.

All of this means that Nina Hut is popular for school parties, families, etc.
