Avoca Homestead, Korowai/Torlesse Tussocklands Park

Once a fairly remote high-country sheep station, the area is now incorporated into Korowai/Torlesse Tussocklands Park. It’s a fair way down off the main West Coast highway with more than a dozen gates to open and close, then do the same on the way out. A good mountain bike ride.

Once you go under the railway viaduct, there’s Broken River to cross. The old sheep bridge has been half-washed away, so you get your feet wet crossing. It should be okay in normal conditions.

The old farmhouse has three small bedrooms and a central living room with timber match lining. It’s comfortable, but not sure who actually stays.
