Mid Robinson Hut | Victoria Forest Park

The Mid Robinson Hut is located in a small clearing quite close to the Robinson River. There is a swingbridge in close proximity.

The hut is one of the South Island’s many New Zealand Forest Service S70 type huts. This is a very familiar configuration for trampers. Like many of these huts the open fireplace has been removed and replaced with a wood burner. This has generally been done to cut down on the fire risk, and use the available firewood more efficiently.

Note that the Robinson River has had some areas of windfall in recent years, particularly downstream of this hut, and DOC has not rerouted the track where it has been washed away by flooding. In fact due to the extend DOC may never clear the track. There are some short sections of the route which are now fairly hard work, or may be easier to avoid by crossing the river.
