Upper Cromel Hut | Eyre Mountain/ Taka Rā Haka Conservation Park

One of the most delightful huts in the Eyre Mountains if you are on your own or with a solitary companion. It is small.

Upper Cromel Hut is located in regenerating forest in a very picturesque valley with some fine scenery surrounding it. It seems a destination for hut baggers mostly these days, and an occasional tramper cutting through the area.

It’s a delightful two-bunk bivvy, with an open fire, two bunks, and a north-facing window under which is a decent bench. No toilet was apparent, although there is a shovel. A track through the ferns leads down to the river to gather water.
