I had a surprising level of trepidation when my protective Moonboot was finally removed. I tentatively shuffled around the house in bare feet for a couple of days, gaining confidence before launching into town in my shoes.

My leg seemed to work okay.

I reset my daily steps on my phone app, Pacer, to 3000 a day.

My new physio recommended exercises to build up strength in my calf and my body generally. My leg was surprisingly weak.

Rehab started with double calf raises and other exercises using a resistant band.

Bike riding on the flat was introduced.

The idea is that you ramp up the exercise difficulty every two weeks incrementally, but as the months go by, you are always having to put in additional effort.

Don’t do too much, too soon.

If you stop this process, leg strength will plateau.

That will be a problem as time goes by.

You do need to put the work in if you want to regain anywhere near your old strength so that you can continue doing the things you want to do.
