Top Leatham Hut, Leatham River

Top Leatham Hut started as a four-bunk New Zealand Forest Service deer cullers’ hut, but recently it was re-piled, two bunks added, the porch built, a wood burner installed, new double-glazed windows and insulation installed, oh, relined as well. It’s now pretty snug.

Used by recreational hunters and those on the Leatham/Molesworth route circuit.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
