Greigs Hut | Leatham Conservation Area

It’s a 14 km trudge up a flattish four wheel drive track to the 1976 Greigs Hut. It seems strangely oversized since few stay. Many drive in, as four wheel drive vehicle access is unrestricted.

While there are short stretches of beech forest, the majority is either manuka, or non-forestry conifers, ie, pines and Douglas fir, planted to prevent additional soil erosion caused by earlier overgrazing and fires.
