Tarn Hut | Mt Richmond Forest Park
Some might suggest that the “tarn” doesn’t quite meet the standard definition. Many would just say, “Man, that’s a lake.” Whatever the terminology, it clearly meets the definition of picturesque with all those mature red beech trees ashore.
Set just off the main track in a sunny clearing, when it’s sunny, Tarn is another well-renovated, comfy hut.
Watch for the hut weka trying to catch the tadpoles in the tarn.

Youth (5–17 years): $7.50 per night
Child/Infant (0–4 years): free
Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
