Richmond Saddle Hut | Mt Richmond Forest Park
Richmond Saddle is a hut with a complicated history, once further down the hill towards the Wairau but transferred up here in 1968, and extended to an 8 bunker in 1986. Due to the proximity to the carpark, this hut is prone to overcrowding on odd occasions.
There are good views to the north, and the view from the dunny is stunning. It’s an hour or so to scoot up to the top of Mt Richmond from here, steep and unstable.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
