Mt Rintoul Hut | Mt Richmond Forest Park
OK, so it’s the hut with a dunny having the most memorable view on the Alpine Route, but the hut itself also rates highly in the view department: that’s much of Kahurangi over there, Abel Tasman on show, Farewell Spit sneaking out from behind, and just down there, actually way down, are lights from Wakefield, Brightwater and in the distance, Motueka. Nice.
Rintoul Hut is an old NZFS hut, well renovated, with plenty of light streaming in. That’s double nice.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
