Mt Malita Hut | near Richmond Range
The hut was built to service a small astronomical observatory built not too far away in 1962. The observatory was moved to Mt John near Tekapo as even back then, the lights of Richmond interfered with the observations.
Basically an unrenovated steel shed with two uncomfortable bunks and a large wall display of visitors going back to the early 1960s.
