Mt Fell Hut | Mt Richmond Forest Park
It’s a long way up to Mt Fell Hut from the Nelson side, not so bad from the Wairau. That gives some great views out over Mt Fishtail, around the Wairau Valley, and as far as the North Island.
This hut has a fab ambience, might be something to do with the considerable (single) glazing which is more than that of your standard 1960s hut. A goodie.
It was relocated in 2016 about 400 m along the track towards the Wairau Valley by a navy helicopter, and restored by the Nelson Tramping Club with assistance from DOC.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
