After the gloom of Mid Wairoa Hut, this hut is full of light and vibrancy, the hut painted in the startling Rescue Orange hue, and, err, perhaps that’s going overboard about all the light, certainly true in comparison with the gloom of Mid Wairoa.
Another original, almost, NZFS hut that retains its open fireplace, a smoky experience apparently, according to the hut book, you get the fire going but have to open the door and windows. Those were the days.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
