Slaty Hut | Mt Richmond Forest Park
Those with energy in excess after the 1300 m trudge up the hill to Starveall Hut can continue on to the well-sited Slaty Hut, just adjacent to the bushline, you get the mountain beech forest and the tussock tops in one location.
A standard NZFS SF 70 hut from back in the day has been renovated with the open fireplace replaced with a woodburner, painted inside and out, and is as comfortable as any along the route.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
