Lake Matiri Hut | Kahurangi National Park
Just three hours mostly level stroll from the two-wheel drive car park, huts like Lake Matiri Hut sometimes suffer from misuse. This one seems far enough removed to be not too much of an issue other than rubbish accumulation.
Situated overlooking Lake Matiri with a fine view north up the valley. The noise from the paradise ducks early in the morning should avoid the necessity for an alarm clock should you choose to stay.

Before you go, buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, red for youth) for each night of your stay. Put this in the honesty box at the hut. A Backcountry Hut Pass is also valid year-round.
