Karamea Bend Hut | Kahurangi National Park

Just up the Leslie from its junction with the bigger Karamea River, perched on a river terrace with a view down towards The Bend through the lancewoods in various phases of their heteroblasty, ie, radically different forms between juvenile and mature plants.

Exactly why this hut was built so large is a curiosity; I can’t think it is at capacity often. Guess someone at DOC must have recognised that the Leslie River walk is as pretty as it gets around here and thought if you built a great hut, people would just turn up.
