Rakeahua Hut | Rakiura National Park, Stewart Island
Rakeahua Hut is a 1970s SF 70 NZFS hut, the last on the NW/S circuits, with the open fire replaced with a woodburner, and surrounded by eight ancient, majestic macrocarpa trees.
Worth considering the stroll up Mt Rakeahua if the weather is okay. The track is well marked in the forest and generally pleasant walking. Helps you don’t need to lug your pack. Note that care needs to taken above the treeline if the weather deteriorates. The view rewards the effort.
