Christmas Village Hut | Rakiura National Park, Stewart Island
The 1970s Christmas Village hut is close to the bouldery beach in a small clearing but a long way from anything that might resemble a “village” in it’s usual definition. There’s no intimate pub, no village green, no local Sunday market. Actually there’s no other structure than the hut and the dunny, and certainly no permanent inhabitants.
The jumping off point for climbing Mt Anglem/Hananui which, if the weather is okay, is well worth the climb because, if the weather is still okay, you can see most of the island, Southland, Fiordland, etc.
