Casey Hut | Arthurs Pass National Park
One of the typical recent DOC one-room huts, opened October 2020, with big double-glazed windows to take in the view and sun, plenty of insulation, and a small woodburner to save on the wood. Money for the hut was donated by two generous individuals, Robert Birks and Sharon English, when DOC strangely deemed too few visitors to the old hut for the government to pay for its reconstruction.
The old Lockwood Hut burned due to trampers drying firewood on the woodburner. The new hut is better located with a view from the river terrace across the Poulter River.
It will prove useful as the Casey Saddle/Binser Saddle route is perfect for a big overnight tramp for adventurous teenagers.
