McKerrow Island Hut | Hollyford Track, Fiordland National Park
The issue with McKerrow Island Hut is access. You need to get at least your feet wet, if not your undies, but the flood overflow, while deepish, is often not flowing too dramatically. It can be easy enough to cross, unless it’s not.
For those who venture across there is a reward: a superb view down Lake McKerrow/Wakatipu Waitai and of the Darran Range. The old-style McKerrow Island Hut is more character laden than some of the recent constructions. Yeah, have a little adventure, stay here.
