Awaroa Hut | Abel Tasman Coastal Track
Awaroa Hut was built by the Abel Tasman National Park Board in 1973 as one of three Coastal Track huts. The other two at Anchorage and Bark Bay have since been replaced.
It is parked on the edge of the Awaroa estuary, so it’s handy while waiting for the tide to recede, that’s if you’re on the hut side.
If not, you can at least look at it and dream you are there.
Check the tide timetables before you book. You can only cross Awaroa Inlet in daylight, and within 1 hour 30 minutes before and 2 hours after low tide. Once the tide starts coming in, it is a rush. Deeper channels run midway across, so you can’t get through outside those times. No, you can’t.
