Lower Gridiron Shelter | Kahurangi National Park
Lower Gridiron Shelter has to be one of the zaniest of DOC’s accommodations. If you want to stay at a crazy, adventurous spot this is up there, literally.
You sleep outside on a small open timber platform that is accessed by climbing a substantial timber ladder, so it’s not really for those prone to sleepwalking. There’s an open fire and a bench seat at ground level.
