Larrikin Creek Hut | Kahurangi National Park

Larrikin Creek Hut is an obvious place for accommodation for those who wish to climb The Haystack or The Needle, or just explore the 1000 Acre Plateau. The Needle is an easy enough climb, the main barrier being the speargrass at the end of the flat area on the slope beyond the tarns.

The standard 4-bunk S81 ex-Forest Service hut is in fairly good nick, spacious enough at full capacity, ie, four tired trampers, but it’s probably fairly cold during the cooler months.

Re-roofed and repainted by Backcountry Trust volunteers in 2020, along with general maintenance. A woodshed was built.
